External CIO & Strategic Partner

For family offices, investment funds and business leaders seeking institutional expertise without building an in-house investment office.

With over 30 years of experience as an institutional portfolio manager, investment strategist, Chief Investment Officer and entrepreneur, I bring executive-level expertise to organizations seeking greater clarity in their strategic decisions.

Today, I put that experience to work through long-term advisory mandates, serving as an external CIO and strategic partner to decision-makers.

When an External CIO Creates the Most Value.

My engagements sit at the intersection of finance, strategy and leadership. Three client profiles represent the core of my practice.

Family offices and entrepreneurial families

You manage substantial wealth, built over years of operation or inherited from a recent transaction. You need institutional oversight of your allocation, your external managers, and your risks — without having to build a full-time investment office.

I serve as your external CIO, in direct interface with you and with your financial partners.

Investment funds and asset managers

You run a growing fund, a private investment firm, or an emerging manager that needs senior expertise to structure processes, validate theses, mentor junior managers, or sit on an investment committee.

My background in macro management, fixed income, and as a CIO allows me to contribute immediately.

Executives and CEOs of private companies

You lead a private company in growth mode, a mature SME, or a family business. Financial questions — capital, financing, M&A, governance, succession — take more and more of your time, but you do not have the critical mass to hire a full-time senior CFO or CIO.

I act as your financial and strategic right hand, on a recurring basis.

Institutional Expertise for Better Decisions.

Institutional Investment Experience

Strategic and tactical multi-asset class allocation. Construction and review of investment policy. Selection and oversight of external managers. Management of market, credit, currency, and interest rate risks. Portfolio structuring, capital tax optimization, and integration of alternatives, private, and public assets.

Business Strategy & Execution

Strategy validation, sparring on critical decisions, governance structuring, preparation and support for transactions (financing, acquisition, partnership, succession). Oversight of internal finance teams.

A CEO's Strategic Partner

Regular presence alongside the executive as a trusted advisor. Preparation for committees, boards of directors, and key meetings. Absolute confidentiality, consistent candor, and real availability between formal meetings.

The Discipline of a CIO. The Proximity of a Strategic Partner.

My mandates are structured as a monthly retainer, with a minimum commitment of three months. This structure exists for a reason: the value of a strategic partner builds over time, through deep knowledge of your context and through real availability between formal meetings. This is not a one-off consulting mandate.

A typical engagement includes recurring meetings (weekly, biweekly, or monthly depending on the mandate), confirmed availability for urgent matters between meetings, participation in your investment or leadership committees where relevant, and the strategic deliverables agreed upon at the start of the mandate (analytical notes, allocation recommendations, decision memos, and so on).

I work with a limited number of clients at a time to safeguard the caliber of each engagement.

A Partnership Tailored to Your Context.

Why Work With Me

My background is rare in Québec. A graduate of HEC Montréal and a CFA charterholder, I was a founding member of Morgan Stanley’s Canadian fixed income desk in New York and Toronto, a global macro portfolio manager at Brevan Howard, and Chief Investment Officer at Montrusco Bolton.

I have also been an entrepreneur, the buyer of a portfolio management firm, and CEO of a technology company.

This combination — high-level institutional portfolio management, real entrepreneurial experience, and time in the CEO’s chair — changes the nature of the conversations I can have with my clients. A family office gets an interlocutor who can engage as a peer with its external managers. A fund gets a sparring partner who has done the work. An executive gets a right hand who understands both the balance sheet and the team dynamic.

That is what my clients come for: the rarity of a hybrid profile, devoted to a limited number of mandates at a time.
